 Agasozi K’Ibanga Ry’amahoro Center

Geography

Ibanga ry’Amahoro Center is located in Kamatita sub-sector, Gihundwe Sector, Rusizi District, Western Province. In Cyangugu Catholic Diocese, Nkanka Parish and Muhari sub-parish. It covers an area of 25 h.

Short history

After Genocide against Tutsi in 1994 in Rwanda, Father Ubald RUGIRANGOGA has himself imagined a place where particularly Christians and general Rwandans can be gathered and pray for peace, asking and giving pardon each other. A place where Rwandans can be healed their troubles caused by Genocide.

To answer to the problem of Father Ubald, Bishop Jean Damascene BIMENYIMANA of Cyangugu Diocese has shown to Father Ubald a place which will be named “Ibanga ry’Amahoro”.  Father Ubald was happy of the place because as it is near to the Lake Kivu, it seems to Galilee where Jesus taught crowd.

Father Ubald has immediately begun to prepare the place. He has installed Virgin Marry, Queen of Charity; Virgin Marry Queen of Peace, the Way of Rosary, the Way of mysteries of Virgin Marry pain, the way of the Cross. All of those Ways begin by Virgin Marry our Lady of Kibeho and end by Jesus, divine merciful.

In 2008, 27th November, Bishop Jean Damascene BIMENYIMANA has celebrated the first mass to the place, and officially he has named the place “Ibanga ry’amahoro”.

In 2016, 5th August, Bishop Jean Damascene BIMENYIMANA has blessed the holy Ways and holy Statues. He officially said that “Ibanga ry’Amahoro” becomes a Holy Land for pilgrims.

Especially, every 13th of every month, the date of Fatima apparitions, Christians must be gathered there and pray. In the night of 12th, Christians pass the night there in prayer and they receive individual confession.
